Composting and the Industrial Food System–We use these interactive posters to teach about the connections between food and the environment and society as a whole. The composting poster shows the “life cycle” of an apple. If we throw away the core, it adds to the pile of garbage in the dump, but if we compost it and turn it into “healthy dirt,” we can help more apple trees grow. The industrial food system poster shows how many links there are in the chain between food being produced and food being eaten. It also shows that there are individuals at the beginning and end of the chain, while a number of faceless businesses and companies are involved in getting that food to us. If we shorten the chain, we have a better sense of knowing the names of the people involved–and caring about their welfare.
Posters were designed by Lucy Long with assistance by Melissa Hill.
