Meals that don’t work for some reason can be humiliating, infuriating, and just downright frustrating at the time, but they tend to make for good stories later on. Many first-time cooks tell of leaving in the bundle of giblets and livers stored inside the store-bought turkey, or of failing to thaw or roast it the required amount of time. Or the time the family dog pulled off a drumstick. Or Dad dropped it on the kitchen floor but was able to reassemble it before placing it on the dining room table.
